The library has recently obtained copies of the Encyclopedia of international sports studies , described as the “the most authoritative and comprehensive single-volume reference work ever published on sport”, and the Directory of sport science (Human Kinetics provide a good summary of this title). Both titles are excellent places to start if you are looking for clarification of terminology, or you want to know the current writing on a subject.

Library datestampYou can renew your library books online using the My Account tab on the library catalogue.  You will need your borrower number and your library PIN to log in.

  • Your borrower number is your student banner number, or, if you are a member of staff, the number on your library card.
  • If you do not know your library PIN either ask at the Issue Desk of your campus library or email library@uws.ac.uk (using your UWS email account).

If another reader has requested your book it cannot be renewed, so you must be prepared to return your book to a branch of UWS library immediately.  If there are no reservations, a book can be renewed 10 times. Items from the short loan collection cannot be renewed.

There will be some changes to the library opening hours for the weekend of Friday 30th July to Monday 2nd August. The Ayr campus library will be open on Saturday 31st July (9-4:50) but will be closed on Monday 2nd August. The Dumfries campus library will be open on Monday 2nd August between 9-5 with staffed services available between  10-12 and 2-4. The Hamilton campus library will open as normal.
